Friday, June 5, 2015
9:30am - 4:45pm

New York State Bar Association
Albany, NY

5.5 Transitional CLE Credits 2.0 Skills, 3.5 Professional Practice
[Under New York’s MCLE rule, this program has been approved for all attorneys, including newly admitted.]

Sponsored by:

The New York State Bar Association's Committee to Ensure Quality of Mandated Representation

Program Description:

Leading practitioners knowledgeable in the representation of adults in Family Court proceedings will provide an overview of best practices and offer practical advice and strategies. The day-long CLE will cover best practices for working with experts in Article 10, child welfare and related proceedings, how to conduct more effective preliminary hearing preparation and discovery, and how to incorporate social workers and other non-legal professionals into your practice so as to ensure holistic representation for your clients.  Because our clients seldom present with a single, discrete legal issue to be addressed in one forum, the CLE will feature a panel of experienced practitioners who will discuss the unintended legal consequences that may develop for clients and offer practical suggestions and strategies for how to coordinate the representation of a client facing multiple consequences in multiple forums.

Topics:

  1. Working with Experts in Article 10 and TPR Cases: The Applicable Law
  2. Discovery in Article 10/TPR/Custody Proceedings
  3. Overview and Implementation: NYS ILS Standards of Practice for Parents' Attorneys in Child Protective Proceedings
