Advertising Law Committee
The mission of the Advertising Law Committee is to address
the needs of Section members and other attorneys in connection with
intellectual property issues arising in connection with advertising, marketing
and social media. The Committee intends to meet these needs through the
dissemination of relevant information and the development of educational
programs, forums and publications. The goal of this Committee is to
provide opportunities for Section Members’ skill development; and to grow the
Section’s membership by meeting the needs of those who practice in the
Advertising Law community.

Copyright Law Committee
The mission of the Copyright Law Committee is to educate Section members and
other attorneys about Copyright Law as it affects the interests of their
clients. This is effectuated through programs that provide reviews of the law
and opportunities for effective exchange of ideas, through publication of case
reviews, and through the IP Section Speakers Bureau participation.

CYBER SECURITY AND DATA PRIVACY COMMITTEE
The
primary mission of the Data Privacy and Cyber security Committee is to help
Section members become familiar and keep up-to-date with the complicated and
ever-changing set of data privacy and cybersecurity laws, regulations and
practices, Data privacy and cyber security have become relevant areas of
law for many IP practitioners over the past several years, and the significance
of these fields is likely to increase over time. The Committee will offer
formal and informal presentations, panels and gatherings to bring together and
be a community for interested members of the Bar – whether practiced in, or
just beginning to explore, the exciting legal areas of data privacy and
cybersecurity.

Diversity Initiative
It is the purpose of the Intellectual Property Law Section
Diversity Initiative to achieve membership diversity of the Section and its
Committees by reaching out to legal professionals and law students of diverse
backgrounds, including, race, religion, gender, national origin, ethnicity, age,
and sexual orientation. Through the Executive Committee, the Diversity
Initiative should accomplish this objective by: (i) encouraging participation
of attorneys and law students of diverse backgrounds in Section activities, (ii)
promoting diversity among speakers and panelists of Section and Committee
programs, (iii) recognizing top achievements by attorneys and law students of
diverse backgrounds in the area of intellectual property law, (iv) recognizing
intellectual property law practitioners, law firms, and corporations who have
demonstrated leadership in promoting a diverse workforce, including the hiring,
retention, and promotion of attorneys of diverse backgrounds, and (v)
collaborating with Section Committees, other sections, and other bar
associations, the public and private sectors in connection with various
diversity initiatives and projects.

Ethics Committee
The Ethics Committee considers ethical issues arising in the context of IP
and Technology Law; informs the Section on recent developments and the possible
implications to the IP professional; and provides general guidance on ethical
issues of concern to the IP professional through publications and seminars.
Formal or informal opinions for specific ethical issues are provided by the
NYSBA and may be found on-line at www.nysba.org or by using the NYSBA ethics hot
line.

In-house Initiative
The In-House Initiative's mission is to raise the visibility of the IP Section among in-house attorneys admitted to practice law in New York in order to increase the membership of in-house attorneys in the IP Section. Through the Executive Committee, the In-House Initiative should accomplish this objective by: (1) organizing regular membership drives, (2) organizing CLE events for in-house attorneys only, (3) encouraging in-house attorneys to participate in IP Section programs and networking events by sending targeted IP Section communications, and (4) forming a committee of in-house attorneys who will be charged with carrying out these objectives.

International IP Law Committee
The mission of the International IP Legal Issues Committee is to educate
members of the Bar about international legal issues that affect the practice of
intellectual property law from the perspective of U.S. practitioners, as well as
foreign attorneys, and to assist Section members to meet the challenges of an
emerging global IP law practice. The Committee will provide legal education
through programs and publications and dissemination of information about
legislative and judicial developments related to international IP issues. The
Committee also seeks to increase the involvement of foreign attorneys in the IP
Section. It is the Committee's goal to hold at least one meeting a year with
participation from foreign Section members.

Internet & Technology Law
Committee
The mission of the Internet & Technology Law Committee is to inform the
bar of emerging developments of Intellectual Property Law pertaining to the
Internet and related computer networks. The rapid growth of the Internet as a
means of conducting commerce, providing information, and delivering audio-visual
works, make the Internet fertile ground for issues concerning trademark,
copyright, patents, trade secrets and related legal issues involving the
creation and protection of intellectual property (such as publicity and database
laws). The Committee shall study and investigate the development of the law in
this area locally, nationally and internationally, and report to the Section
through newsletters, bulletins and seminar programs.

Legislative/Amicus Committee
The Legislative/Amicus Committee coordinates the review by the Intellectual
Property Law Section of pending or existing legislation or court cases affecting
Intellectual Property Law for New York practitioners brought to the attention of
the Section. The Committee works with the appropriate law committees of the
Section to review, analyze and then report to the Section's Executive Committee
as to recommendations for action or non-action. Depending on the action to be
taken, the Section's Executive Committee may recommend to the NYSBA Executive
Committee that certain action be taken in the name of the NYSBA, such as the
filing of amicus curiae briefs, or, where appropriate and permitted to do so,
the Section's Executive Committee may authorize the drafting of affirmative
legislative proposals and/or provide commentary on bills or amendments to bills
or legislation. The Legislative/Amicus Committee assists the appropriate Section
law Committee in taking the action authorized by the Section's Executive
Committee and/or the NYSBA, such as the drafting of proposed legislation and
briefs, and coordinating the Section's efforts in connection therewith.

Litigation Committee
The mission of the Litigation Committee is to address the needs of Section
members and other attorneys in connection with rules of practice and procedure
relating to intellectual property litigation, including issues relating to the
implementation of rules of practice that may affect the practice of intellectual
property law, and the selection and appointment of judges and magistrate judges.
The Committee intends to meet these needs through the dissemination of relevant
information from government sources, soliciting comments and making
recommendations to the Section Chair in connection with rule-making,
participating in the judicial selection process, and developing educational
programs, forums and publications with the goal of educating Section Members and
providing opportunities for skill development.

Patent Law Committee
The mission of the Patent Law Committee is to provide information and a forum
for discussion to Section members and other attorneys about inventions and
inventing. Included within the scope of this mission is obtaining patents both
in the United States and outside the United States and protecting rights to such
inventions. The Committee achieves its mission by establishing educational
programs and materials and monitoring legislative and judicial developments in
patent law.

The mission of the Pro Bono and Public Interest Committee is to develop,

Trademark Law Committee
The mission of the Trademark Law Committee is to examine, monitor, report and
make recommendations to Section members and other attorneys on existing and
proposed trademark laws and procedures that affect or may affect their practice
and their client's business. To achieve this mission, the Committee disseminates

establishes educational programs and forums on the fundamentals of
trademarks.

The mission of the Transactional Committee is to assist Section
