January 28, 2020: State Bar Announces Global Membership Initiative Based on Collaboration with Local Bar Associations Around the World

New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) President Henry M. Greenberg today announced that NYSBA has launched a global membership initiative to collaborate with bar associations around the world and support and advance the rule of law.

Greenberg made the announcement at a luncheon meeting of NYSBA’s International Section, part of the association’s Annual Meeting Jan. 27-31 in New York City.

“This effort is critical to the association from a membership perspective, because one of our greatest opportunities for growth is international,” said Greenberg. “We will work with every major bar association in countries across the world.

“Our goal is to enter into MOUs with as many international bar associations as possible,” Greenberg explained. “Each MOU formally establishes our relationships with our international partners and allows us to work together with them to increase membership, provide resources to members of both organizations and to work together to support the rule of law.”

NYSBA’s global membership initiative is already bearing fruit. Greenberg and Seoul Bar Association President JongWoo Park will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two organizations on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

On Thursday, Greenberg and Kotaro Yamamoto, chairperson of the International Exchange Committee of the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association (DTBA) will sign an MOU between the two organizations.

NYSBA currently has MOUs with seven international bar associations. NYSBA's International Section includes 65 chapters and members from more than 100 countries.
